Ordination in Pastoral Counseling is required for degree candidates.
The Pastoral Counseling track is designed to train students in the areas of Pastoral Counseling. Pastoral/Spiritual concerns itself with matters of the spirit. Spiritual matters are those involving humankind's ultimate nature, not merely as material biological organisms, but as beings with a unique relationship to God, and matters which are beyond both time and material existency. A Pastoral/Spiritual Counselor examines life issues from a holistic perspective (spirit-body-mind) and gives guidance accordingly. Course material provides both Psychological and Spiritual instruction.
Pastoral/Spiritual counselors encourage the counselee to examine their issues from a holistic perspective and learn healthier ways of coping in order to promote positive growth. It is our belief that through proper learning and changing all non-organic, spiritual-emotional life issues can be effectively dealt with.
● Certification provides only a basic level of training to assist others in their counseling needs.
● The Degreed Counselor has more in-depth knowledge to deal with various counseling issues.
The five main components in the Pastoral Counseling Program are there to:
●
Provide pastoral counseling,
psychotherapy, consultation, education, certification,
and accreditation as an
extension of the ministry of
faith communities.
● Commit to recruit new members, retain, and revitalize present membership.
●
Promote pastoral counseling
and care practices that are ethically sound, clinically
competent, spiritually
grounded and sensitive to
multiple faiths and spiritual practices.
●
Provide professional
formation, credentialing and membership for those who
seek to integrate the
resources of spirituality,
theology, and faith traditions into their professional
practice.
